Short answer: A Pilates studio consultant is a specialist who helps you plan the Pilates side of a new or growing studio: the opening concept, equipment, instructor team and class programming. At Code Pilates, online sessions cost 250 USD per hour. Permits, legal and tax work stay with local specialists, and no consultant can honestly guarantee results.
Studio decisions are often made in the wrong order: a lease signed before anyone checked how many Reformers fit, machines ordered before the timetable exists, instructors hired a week before opening. A good consultant fixes the order.
What does a Pilates studio consultant actually do?
A Pilates studio consultant is an experienced Pilates professional who turns a studio idea into concrete decisions about concept, equipment, team and classes before money is committed. The value is Pilates-specific judgement: which class formats suit your clients, which machines those formats need, who can teach them, and how the week fits together.
It helps to separate the consultant from the other people you will meet:
| Role | Main job | Typical deliverable |
|---|---|---|
| Pilates studio consultant | Pilates-specific decisions: concept, equipment, instructor team, programming | Written plan, equipment list, class structure |
| Business setup agent or lawyer | Company formation, trade licence, permits, contracts | Licences, registrations, legal documents |
| Accountant | Tax, bookkeeping, payroll | Filings and financial reports |
| Equipment supplier | Selling, delivering and servicing machines | Quote, installation, warranty |
| Interior designer or contractor | Fit-out and construction | Drawings and the finished space |
When one person claims to do all five, ask how.
What does Code Pilates do, and what don’t we do?
We are a Pilates teacher-training school first, and our consultancy uses the same knowledge: how Pilates is taught well, on which equipment, by which team.
What we do
- Opening concept: who the studio serves, which formats it offers (Mat, Reformer, private, small group) and how it fits your location.
- Equipment selection: a brand-neutral list of machines and small equipment, matched to your timetable and your floor space. Our Pilates studio equipment list shows the categories we work through.
- Instructor team: the profile you need, an audition structure and one teaching standard for the whole team.
- Programming: levels, class formats, a weekly timetable and a client assessment routine.
What we don’t do
- Apply for permits or licences, or represent you before any authority.
- Give legal, tax, visa or company-formation advice.
- Manage construction or fit-out.
- Guarantee licences, timelines, revenue, occupancy or success.
Official rules differ in every country, and local specialists handle them. Two examples we have checked at the source:
| Country | Example rule | Official source | Last checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| UAE (Dubai) | “A Licensing Authority may not issue or renew the Licence of a Sports Establishment or Sports Event without first obtaining authorisation from the DSC.” (Article 5(c)) | Executive Council Resolution No. (1) of 2020 | 27 September 2026 |
| Türkiye | For opening a workplace: “Pilates branşında en az 1. Kademe Eğitmen Belgesi aranır” (at least a Level 1 instructor certificate in the Pilates branch; Article 31) | Turkish Gymnastics Federation instruction (PDF) | 27 September 2026 |
| Germany, Italy | Different authorities and procedures apply; we do not summarise them here | Ask a local specialist | – |
How much does a Pilates studio consultant cost?
Consultants usually charge by the hour, by a fixed project fee or by a monthly retainer. We found no reliable, sourced benchmark for market rates, so we quote no “average price”. Here is ours:
| Service | Format | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy session | Online, 60 minutes, one-to-one with Barış Özdemir | 250 USD (local equivalents: AED 920, €220, ₺12,250, £190) |
| Written action plan | Summary and prioritised actions within 48 hours of the session | Included in the session |
| In-person work in Dubai | On request, planned after the online session | Written proposal |
| Projects or monthly support | Scope and timeline sent within 2 working days if needed | Written proposal |
The exact fee in your currency is shown on the consultancy booking page before you pay. You can move a session free of charge, or cancel for a full refund, up to 24 hours before it starts.
When is the right time to hire a consultant?
The earlier, the cheaper your mistakes. The most useful moments are:
- Before you sign a lease. Floor area, ceiling height and column positions decide how many machines fit and which classes you can run.
- Before you order equipment. The timetable should decide the machines, not the other way round.
- Before you hire instructors. A clear teaching standard makes auditions faster and fairer.
- When you add Pilates to a gym, hotel or clinic. A Pilates department needs its own standards inside someone else’s operation.
- When an open studio stops growing. Class structure, team consistency and pricing are good places to start the review.
If an experienced Pilates operations lead who has opened a studio before is already on your team, one session to test the plan may be enough.
10 questions to ask a Pilates studio consultant before you pay
| # | Question | A good answer includes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | What exactly will I receive, and in what form? | A named, written deliverable and a delivery date |
| 2 | Who does the work personally? | The name of the person in the session and the person who writes the plan |
| 3 | Do you receive commissions from equipment suppliers, landlords or franchise brands? | A clear yes or no, in writing |
| 4 | What is outside your scope? | Permits, legal, tax and construction named plainly, with the type of specialist you need instead |
| 5 | How do you price, and what is included? | Hourly, project or retainer terms, plus the cancellation rules |
| 6 | What is your Pilates teaching background? | Years of teaching and training instructors, and on which equipment |
| 7 | How will the equipment list connect to my timetable? | Machines counted from class formats and capacity, not from a catalogue |
| 8 | How will you help me build the instructor team? | An audition structure and one teaching standard for everyone |
| 9 | Which local rules do you know, and who handles the rest? | Honest limits and a referral to local specialists |
| 10 | Can you guarantee results? | No. Anyone who guarantees revenue, permits or timelines is selling certainty they do not have |
How does a consultancy session work at Code Pilates?
- Choose your topic: opening a studio, adding Pilates to a facility, teacher mentoring or a growth check-up.
- Pick a day and time in your own time zone and pay securely by card through Stripe.
- Strategy session: 60 minutes online with Barış Özdemir, NCPT, founder and Education Director of Code Pilates Academy, who has trained Pilates instructors since 2011.
- Written plan within 48 hours: a summary and a prioritised action list. If more work makes sense, you receive a scope and proposal within 2 working days.
Sessions run in Turkish or English. Arabic is possible with an interpreter.
Which promises should make you cautious?
- A guaranteed licence, permit or approval date.
- Guaranteed revenue, occupancy or payback period.
- Equipment recommendations with undisclosed supplier ties.
- No written deliverable, only “ongoing advice”.
- Certificates for your team that are said to be “recognised everywhere”. Recognition depends on each country’s rules.
Our advice before you open
- Choose the timetable before the equipment. Decide class formats and capacity first, then the machine count.
- Plan the instructor team early. Auditions and in-house training on the chosen equipment need time before opening day.
- Think twice before mixing equipment brands. Spring settings and adjustments differ between manufacturers, so one teaching standard becomes harder to hold.
- Check local instructor rules early. An international certificate does not automatically meet a local requirement such as the Dubai Sports Council register or the Turkish Gymnastics Federation certificate.
Checklist: prepare for your first session
- ☐ One or two candidate locations, with floor plans or photos
- ☐ Your budget range and how the studio will be financed
- ☐ The clients you want to serve and the formats you imagine
- ☐ Any equipment quotes you already have
- ☐ Your team situation: are you teaching yourself, hiring, or both?
- ☐ Names of the local specialists handling your company and permits
- ☐ A draft Pilates studio business plan, if you have one
Note: This article is general information. Official permits and licences are handled by local specialists (lawyers, accountants, business setup consultants). Code Pilates helps with the opening concept, equipment selection, the instructor team and class programming. No outcome is guaranteed.

FAQ
What does a Pilates studio consultant do?
A Pilates studio consultant helps you make the Pilates-specific decisions of a studio: the opening concept, class formats, equipment list, instructor team and weekly programming. The consultant does not replace your lawyer, accountant or setup agent. At Code Pilates, each session ends with a written action plan delivered within 48 hours, which you can share with your team and partners.
How much does a Pilates studio consultant cost at Code Pilates?
An online strategy session of 60 minutes costs 250 USD. Local equivalents are AED 920, €220, ₺12,250 and £190, and the booking page shows the exact fee before payment. The written action plan is included. In-person work in Dubai, larger projects and monthly support are priced in a written proposal after the first session.
Can a Pilates studio consultant get my permit or licence?
Not at Code Pilates. Permits, trade licences, company formation, visas and tax are handled by local specialists such as lawyers, accountants and business setup consultants. Each country has its own rules: Dubai has a Dubai Sports Council permit, and Türkiye has Turkish Gymnastics Federation certificates. We plan the Pilates side and work alongside your local specialists.
Do you recommend specific equipment brands?
We build a brand-neutral equipment list from your timetable, capacity and floor plan. We explain the features that matter for teaching and maintenance, so you can compare quotes from any supplier. If you already favour a manufacturer, we check whether its machines suit your class formats and your team’s training. The final purchase decision stays with you.
Can we meet in person?
Yes, in Dubai, on request. We start with a one-hour online strategy session so that any in-person work is planned around real needs. On-site work is then scoped and priced in a written proposal. For studios in Türkiye, Europe and other countries, we work online, and on-site visits are possible by proposal.
Which languages do you work in?
Sessions run in Turkish or English. Arabic is possible with an interpreter. Written plans are delivered in the language of the session. If your partners or investors need a summary in another language, mention it when you book so we can discuss the options before the session.
Is a consultant worth it if I am already a Pilates instructor?
Often, yes, because teaching well and running a studio are different skills. Many instructors know exactly how a class should feel but have not yet planned equipment for a full timetable, hired a team or set one teaching standard for others. If you have opened a studio before, one session to test your plan may be enough.
