Every Code Pilates Academy module has its own training manual. Together the series:
- covers the full path from the first breath to the complete studio repertoire;
- totals 12 manuals, 316 repertoire exercises and 1,954 pages;
- is printed in A4, full colour and spiral-bound, so each book lies flat while you practise.
Here is what each manual covers and how the series fits together.
The foundation: Movement Foundations
Movement Foundations (180 pages) is the base of the whole system. It teaches ten fundamentals:
- breathing;
- core activation;
- neutral spine;
- abdominal strengthening;
- lumbo-pelvic stabilisation;
- spinal strength and mobility;
- scapular stability and mobility;
- alignment;
- relaxation;
- stretching.
Every repertoire manual refers back to these fundamentals, so what you learn here is used in every later module.
For the starting modules, Movement Foundations also comes in two combined editions:
- MAT 1 + Movement Foundations (252 pages);
- Reformer 1 + Movement Foundations (262 pages).
The Mat repertoire
- MAT 1 (94 pages, 26 exercises): the classical mat foundation, from The Hundred to Push Ups. The renewed edition adds movement arrows to 24 exercises, drawn directly onto the photos.
- MAT 2 (82 pages, 22 exercises): the intermediate and advanced mat work, building on the rolling, flexion, rotation, side-lying and plank skills of Mat 1.
- MAT 3 (326 pages, 95 exercises): the mat repertoire with props: small ball, Pilates ring, resistance band, foam roller and massage ball. Each prop adds support, feedback or challenge, and every exercise shows which Movement Foundations it builds on.
The Reformer repertoire
- Reformer 1 (104 pages, 23 exercises): setup, safety and the essential Reformer repertoire.
- Reformer 2 (106 pages, 21 exercises): the next layer of the repertoire.
- Reformer 3 (98 pages, 19 exercises): the advanced Reformer work.
Reformer pages include the equipment setup for each exercise (springs, footbar, headrest, straps) next to the level and repetitions.
The apparatus
- Trapeze Table 1-2-3 (202 pages, 53 exercises): the Trapeze Table (Cadillac) repertoire across three levels.
- Chair 1-2-3 (142 pages, 35 exercises): the Chair repertoire.
- Barrel 1-2-3 (106 pages, 22 exercises): Step Barrel and Ladder Barrel.
One layout in every book
Every exercise page follows the same order:
- header with level and repetitions (and the equipment setup on apparatus);
- starting position;
- movement sequence written with the breath: inhale, exhale;
- numbered photo sequences;
- key points, purpose, and precautions in separate colour-coded boxes;
- modifications and levels of difficulty.
Each manual also ends with sample class plans, a practice log for personal practice, observation and practice teaching, and a short bibliography.
Because the layout never changes, you always know where to look. That is what makes a manual usable in the middle of a class, not just on the bookshelf.
How the manuals follow the training pathways
Code Pilates Academy offers Mat, Reformer, Mat & Reformer and Comprehensive pathways. You start with Movement Foundations and Mat 1, or with Reformer 1. You then add the manuals of the modules you take along the way. The Comprehensive pathway covers the whole series: Mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair and Barrels.
After each module you receive a certificate of attendance. At the end of your pathway there is a written and practical final assessment.
An international series
Code Pilates Academy is an international school based in Dubai, with trainings in Türkiye, the UAE, Belgium and online. The manuals are available in Turkish, English, French, Italian and Arabic. Our training program is NPCP Verified, and Code Pilates Academy is an NPCP CEC Provider.
